A crown is a tooth-shaped “cap” that is placed over a tooth and is used to cover the tooth in order to restore its strength, shape and size as well as the overall appearance of the tooth. Crowns are made of porcelain or gold and cover the tooth completely to strengthen severely compromised teeth. When the crown is put into place it fully encompasses the visible portion of a tooth above the gum line.
You might need a crown if you have the following:
-Large cavities
-Failed silver fillings
-Cracks or fractures
-History of root canal therapy
Crowns can also be used to:
-Attach bridges
-Protect a weak tooth from breaking
-Cover discolored or badly shaped teeth/implants.
It is our primary concern at Nicollet Station Dental to help keep your teeth healthy and your smile bright. During the initial consultation or dental exam, we will find out what a patient’s goals and concerns are for their smile. We will take the time to discuss what’s best for you and if a crown is the best solution for achieving those goals.
