Each case is different. For some people with minor tooth yellowing simply purchasing Crest White Strips in your local department store can give a satisfactory result. This product whitens only the fronts of the anterior teeth, so if you have a broad smile you may not be happy with the results.
Professionally applied whitening systems available from your dentist unquestionably gives the most superior results. These systems often require molds of the teeth be made to fabricate custom trays to hold the bleaching agent against the teeth. At Nicollet Station Dental we also offer a great new system that utilizes prefabricated trays. The cost is less and so far it appears the results are similar to the custom trays. Systems that use lasers or high intensity lights have not been shown in studies to offer any advantages. Power bleaching that utilizes a highly concentrated bleaching agent can be done for a one or two visit treatment if time is of the essence. This technique is considerably more expensive and can potentially irritate the gum tissues.
We'd be happy to discuss which system would be best for you.

A dental implant is used to replace a missing tooth (or teeth). It involves surgically placing a metal cylinder into the ridge of the bone, then placing a post into the cylinder, and finally placing the replacement tooth onto the post. The procedure usually takes about six months, start to finish, to allow time for the implant to integrate into the bone. Implants can also be used to support bridgework or dentures. We would be happy to evaluate your mouth to see if you are a good candidate for implants. Just give us a call!
A veneer is a porcelain cover placed on the fronts of discolored, malformed or chipped teeth. Sometimes smaller problems can be solved with bonding, a composite material, instead of more involved veneers. We'd be happy to advise you about the advantages of these cosmetic procedures and we'd love to help make your smile more beautiful.
